Following an extensive community engagement process, the program began in the fall of 2007 with local youth entering grade 9. The focus is on providing supports after school to help youth successfully complete high school. Based on the successful model in Regent Park, the program aims to significantly reduce the high school drop out rate and increase the chances of local youth completing post-secondary education.
Youth in the program may participate from grade 9 - 12, throughout their entire high school experience.
The program aims to develop relationships with parents and to encourage them to take an active role in the education of their children.
Program components include:

In addition to corporations, foundations and private donors, the Youth Challenge Fund has been a key funder for both the start up and implementation of the program in the Lawrence Heights community, contributing significant funding over the next three years.

All youth living in the catchment defined for the program who are entering grade 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to participate.
Eligible students entering grade 9 are invited to pre-register in their grade 8 year (see registration section at the top of the page for details).

Pathways to Education- Lawrence Heights is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and committed mentors and tutors!
Why Volunteer with Pathways to Education?
Pathways to Education offers you an opportunity to make a long-lasting, positive difference in the lives of young people. As an adult interested in our youth and willing to donate consistent time and energy to support them, you are making a strong, collective statement about how much and how many people believe in the capabilities of our youth.
We have proven success: at our Regent Park site the drop-out rate has been reduced from 56% to 10% and post-secondary attendance rate increased from 20%- 80%. In the Lawrence Heights Community (Allen Expressway & Lawrence Avenue West), “at-risk” students have decreased from 38.5% to 18.5% since our inception.
We provide you with training, support, community service letters, volunteer appreciation events. Volunteers are an important component of our past achievements and are essential to our continued success. Last year, students reported that volunteers were an important factor in motivating students to participate in tutoring and mentoring activities.
