What We Do?

The Diabetes Education Centre provides free individual counseling and group education classes for people with diabetes, pre-diabetes, as well as their caregivers, and family members. A registered nurse and registered dietitian facilitate the classes and provide individual counseling. We also offer free interpretation for appointments in all languages.

Aside from individual appointments and basic group education sessions, we provide many workshops and skill-building sessions to help you manage your diabetes and reduce your risk of developing complications. Some examples include:

• Physical Activity Sessions: Yoga Classes, Walking Club, Physical Activity Workshop
• Health Eating Sessions: Cooking Classes; Healthy Eating for Diabetes on a Tight Budget; Label Reading; Grocery Store Tour
• Other Sessions: Foot Care Talk; Stress Management Workshop; Blood Pressure Workshop; Glucometer Review; Medications for Diabetes Management

Who Can Attend?

There are no geographic boundaries for the services that we provide – so no matter where you live, you are welcome at our centre. If you are interested in coming to our centre, you can call and book your own appointment. A doctor referral is not necessary, however, with your permission, we will request information from your doctor to help us provide you with proper care.
