Bathurst-Finch Kaleidoscope is a community newspaper about this neighbourhood – created not only for its residents, but most importantly by people living here. Most of the articles, photographs, and pictures you will find here have been submitted by people you meet in the supermarket, say ‘hi’ to at the playground or take the same bus with every morning.
This newspaper is about common experiences shared by people living in the neighbourhood and about individual perspectives of its residents. The stories published here are happy and sad, funny and serious. Together they create a unique kaleidoscope of the neighbourhood that is radiating from the intersection of Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue. Like a mosaic, the word most often used to describe Canadian multiculturalism, a kaleidoscope is made of various pieces, and is a symbol of diversity. However, a kaleidoscope, unlike a mosaic, is not fixed or frozen – it changes over time. When someone turns the kaleidoscope, the pieces move around and get rearranged, creating beautiful and interesting new designs.
In the same way, from the contributions of many writers, poets, artists and photographers, we hope to create a beautiful, unique and continually changing community newspaper. We are looking forward to your contribution. In fact, we are counting on it. Without it, Bathurst-Finch Kaleidoscope will be incomplete.
We are now looking for new members for our newspaper and communications group. If you would like to be part of Bathurst-Finch Kaleidoscope, contact us.
