About Us

New Heights Community Health Centres is a non-profit, community-based organization. We are governed by a Board of Directors who are elected every year at our Annual General Meeting.

We encourage the community to participate in the life of the Health Centre as clients, as members, and as volunteers.

Mission
Dedicated to achieving health together through accessible and high quality primary care and community programs.

Vision
Healthy people in a healthy community.

Values
Our commitment to working with these values allows each individual to say, “I CARE”, a fundamental value in itself.  Within our organization and within the communities in which we work we will strive to ensure:

  • Integrity: We foster open communication, accountability, transparency, and critical learning in our work.
  • Collaboration: We are dedicated to working in partnerships with others and to promoting teamwork, solidarity, and recognition of collective achievements.
  • Anti-Oppression: We embrace, reflect and celebrate diversity and work to eliminate oppression in all its forms.
  • Respect: We are committed to treating all people with dignity, honesty and respect and value individual choice and self determination.
  • Excellence: We strive for high quality in all our work and for effective use of our resources.

Beginnings

It was the community of Lawrence Heights that gave us our start in 1974. The centre was formed as Lawrence Heights Medical Centre when residents formed a non-profit Board of Directors and lobbied the Ontario government for more accessible health care. The Board was granted funding for one doctor, and a nurse receptionist.

In 1989, we changed our name to Lawrence Heights Community Health Centre to reflect our holistic approach to health in partnership with the community. With an expansion of our staff, programs and services we needed a new home. Space within the Lawrence Heights community seemed almost impossible to find. When the one privately owned site in the community was put up for sale, we jumped at the chance to buy it with funding from the Ministry of Health. In 1991 we began construction and in May of 1992 we moved into our new building at 12 Flemington Road.

In 2006 we began plans for expansion into new communities through partnerships, off site services and the building on a new satellite community health centre and community hub.

In 2008 we launched our new name and colourful logo depicting building blocks to a brighter future and welcoming hands to an expanded community.

The identity of New Heights Community Health Centres retains the historic roots of the community while promising a bright strong and new vision of community health.
